Waiting For Word Across The Ocean
My work is rooted in the quiet drama of light and time. In my still life photography, I use light painting to transform everyday objects—fruits, flowers, vintage cameras, and electronics—into luminous meditations on memory, form, and presence. Each image is built slowly, with a handheld light source, layer by layer, much like a painter with a brush. This process reveals textures and depth that would otherwise remain unseen, elevating the familiar into the extraordinary.
Beyond the studio, I bring the same sensibility to my Pittsboro nightscapes. These photographs begin at dusk, when natural and artificial light mingle. Through post-processing, I add light to create mood and drama, transforming streets, storefronts, and historic architecture into cinematic visions of place. These images are not simple records but imaginative reinterpretations—portraits of Pittsboro caught between its history and its evolving present.
Whether I am painting light onto a still life or re-envisioning a town after dark, my work explores the tension between what is seen and what is suggested, between permanence and impermanence. It is within that dialogue that I find the poetry of photography.
