Karen Greager-Hall
Painting is immersive, meditative and exhilarating. Every painting provides a new opportunity to connect with my subject and imagination, moving between realism and abstraction.
I work mainly in highly pigmented watercolor adding other mediums as needed; colored pencil, watercolor pencil, pastels, ink and acrylic. My inspiration comes from nature in the form of landscapes, animals and birds.
Growing up, I was encouraged to appreciate artistic activity. My Grandfather was an oil painter and my sister is an artist. Initially, I was more interested in fabrics. That interest resulted in a degree in Fashion Design from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pa. and a 36-year career in fashion retail. My passion shifted from fashion to painting. I began to self-educate in watercolor painting through art literature and workshops. I have also been fortunate to have two mentors; Emma Skurnick and Luna Lee Ray, both notable North Carolina artists.
I am a member of the Chatham Artists Guild, Wilmington Art Association, NC Watercolor Society and the Pittsboro Gallery of Arts.
